Agile Frameworks

How doing Agile?

Doing Agile is not the same as being Agile. If you want to become agile you need not use any agile framework at all. There are so many succesfull agile products, which were built and delivered with the use of Scrum. Unfortunately every framework is useless, if there is no agile mindset. It’s like a fool with a tool.

Agile Frameworks support you to do Agile. An Agile Coach supports you to become Agile.

Scrum uses a cycle, where Kanban doesn’t. Kanban is a flow based system with limiting work in progress. Scrum prescribes meetings, Kanban doesn’t. Although it makes sense to establish meetings in Kanban also to implement feedback loops. Scrum limits the optimal team size. Otherwise you should think about agile scaling, eg. by using the Nexus framework.

So the good news are, that Kanban and Scrum can be used together.

Scrum

“Think of Scrum as a way to get work done as a team in small pieces at a time, with continuous experimentation and feedback loops along the way to learn and improve as you go. Scrum helps people and teams deliver value incrementally in a collaborative way. As an agile framework, Scrum provides just enough structure for people and teams to integrate into how they work, while adding the right practices to optimize for their specific needs. You may be thinking, that sounds great! But, how do I get started?” (from scrum.org)

Kanban

With three principles and five practices Kanban is very light-weight. You can start with what you do right now. You have to make your work visible to make issues transparent and implement feedback loops for continously improving. My approach will implement minor improvements step by step with an persistent impact. Kanban can be used for getting work done both at operational and tactical levels.

Scaling

If you have to scale up your scrum teams working on the same product, the Nexus framework can help, because it is Scrum.
For scaling Kanban teams building products or working together on large projects Kanban flight levels can help.

An Agile Coach has both the skills and knowledge to introduce agile frameworks and to guide the agile working process effectively in order to prevent agile theatre.
